Default Head stud holes into block water jacket?

Folks - Newbie (to the forum) here with a question. I pulled the cylinder head on my '30 pickup and the studs appeared to be old, if not original. In the process of installing new ones I chased the block threads with a tap. I found several of the holes went all the way through into the water jacket. Is this right? I suppose there's nothing inherently bad, I was just expecting blind holes. Last Model A engine I rebuilt was in the late '60s and frankly I don't recall one way or the other.

BTW, 76K miles on the clock, standard diameter pistons, compression high 60s psi. Wow. On the other hand, I haven't looked at the bottom end yet...

Thanks in advance.
