Re: WANTED rr fender trim for 48 Mercury 114X
Hi; Nice 4dr: I have a 48 114X coupe, and understand that they used 46 Mercury thin trim on all three years of 114X's. I inspected mine and found three pieces that were Ford[46], the rest were 46 Merc. The fronts are short length, but still the Merc pattern. I hope this helps. Newc [Oregon] V8 RG 9,10, &85

Re: WANTED rr fender trim for 48 Mercury 114X
Thanks Newc. I suspected I'd ultimately use just the thin strips from a 118 however, if you look at your rear ones you will see that they are of two lengths. One is shorter than the other.
I ran across a reference today that the 42 American Mercury 8 also used the thin ones. I figure parts are even more rare for a 42 than a 114. I'm glad to know I don't have the only 114 on the planet. I'd like to see a photo of your car. |

Re: WANTED rr fender trim for 48 Mercury 114X
Hey guys,
To start, this is my first post. Glad to be a member of this awesome online resource. Hope to be a productive member here. Just wanted to say it's rad to know there are a few other Mercury 114x's out there. I have a '48 we bought about 17 years ago. My brother and I were in grade school at the time and our Dad got it as a project for a high school car. We spent a lot of time and energy on taking the car all the way down to the last bolt. It was a rust bucket and we didnt even know what we had on our hands until we started putting it back together and the Mercury trim we bought was too long. My mom started doing some research on the "114X" and discovered we had a rare car on our hands. The car is 90% done now. Just needs interior. It is a mostly period restoration with a lot of NOS parts in it. Has a '50 ford Flathead motor that is "built" as some would say, including Offy Equipt. heads and dual intake. Fenton headers lead to stainless steel glasspacks. Car is lowered 4" at both ends. Attached are a few pictures. Hope you like 'em. Lets try to get some more pictures and stories up of these rare and beutiful cars! Thanks! Royce, in San Diego. |

Re: WANTED rr fender trim for 48 Mercury 114X
Hi : I restore stainless and I'm sure I have several pieces of the '42-48 Merc 114" fender pieces, both lengths and front and rear. I'm in Florida now, but will be home around the 8th of April. If you PM me then, I'll check my stock. A lot of my stff is N.O.S that I stopped bringing to Hershey as nobody knew what it was for. Cheers : Bruce

I found a pair of 42-46 Ford fender trim mouldings. They aren't a perfect and I have to use the left one on the right side. I'll PM you and hope to hear from you when you get back. 48MercMan It looks like the only two 114X sedans on the planet are both Monsoon maroon! Here is what the interior is supposed to look like (I hope). And yep that's the original mileage. |

Re: WANTED rr fender trim for 48 Mercury 114X
Wow that's a beautiful car. They look like the same car! Did you have to do a lot of work to get that thing looking that nice and original? My dash was a mess and am still having trouble finding the dash bezels. Yours looks nice! Know where to get 'em? I was also curious what our cars are worth. Have no idea what the apraisel value might be on one. I know they are rare but not sure what they are worth. Im also in need of the small coat hanger pieces for the back door. Chrome shop lost ours a long time ago. What motor are you running? What was stock with these? Thanks for the info/help!

I have some parts left over from a 1942 Mercury parts car. It was a fordor. I believe I have the stainless from the rear fenders. It was two thin stainless strips. I will check it out if the pieces will help. Thanks

Mine is bone stock. Interestingly, it came equipped from the factory with alloy heads and intake. Next time I pull it out of the storage warehouse I'll post some pics of the engine. I have NO idea what they are worth. None of the value guides address the 114X. It's like they never existed. The straps on mine seem to be custom made by the shop which did the interior. Next time I pull it out I'll take some pics of the coat hangar parts for you. Here are a couple of shots of the dash (and yes that's the original mileage): If you need any interior detail pics just PM me. |
