Winter
It is October 21.
I drained the cooling system and removed the battery to the basement. Sigh But then there is May 8 (last freeze in northern Illinois) and reversal. |

Re: Winter
Drove my 40 in my storage barn Sad, shut it off, removed the ground cable from the bat, covered it up with blanket and locked the door. Reverse in the spring, fire it up and back it out. OH, I fill the car and trunk with Bounce. Been doing that for 35yr's. Walt

Re: Winter
I keep mine of the shop here at home, don't drain anything and will drive it on nice days over the winter.
Our winter's aren't too bad here in SW, Missouri. I will say that and we will get slammed this year! Kevin |

Re: Winter
We here in Connecticut are just now beginning to enjoy our cars!!! Just today, I was out doing stuff in our Model A roadster....top down. We may think about putting them away in a month or so, but not now.

Re: Winter
Got to love northern Arizona, put the battery tender on, add a little stability in the gas tank. And wait for the next get together. Spoiled, yep!!!

Re: Winter
I can understand some not wanting to drive in the cold and snow. But, in fact, Fords do quite well in that environment.

Re: Winter
Last week the Corvette was evicted from the garage to a friends barn. The Ford will stay in the garage for the winter getting new king pins, tierod ends and the steering box gone through. Then the four speed will be pulled and a three speed installed along with a new drive line. If time allows, finish the body work on the box, rear fenders and running boards then paint the box and fenders and raptor line the inside of the box and the running boards. As the weather and the restoration process allows, it will be driven as much as possible.

Re: Winter
Hey Walt Dupont I drove thru Gardiner yesterday on a return shopping trip from Kittery. Took the back rd. from Brunswick..never done that before. Great drive, great scenery. Temp in the 60's. I think you put your car away too soon. Gardiner is a pretty town this time of year! No other car people in the car but me.

Re: Winter
Old Henry,
What are those things on the windshield...you know, the things that go back and forth? When I ask the previous owner of our '39 if the windshield wipers worked, he just handed me a bottle of Rainex!!

Way to go, Old Henry. Henry Himself would be very proud of you. He did, after all, build 'em to run in the winter.

Re: Winter
In Northern Ohio have antifreeze in cooling system. However
1. Disconnect battery and use a "on demand charger" to maintain charge 2. Change oil & filter 3. Fill gas tank add marvel mystery oil and gas stabilizer 4. Pump tires to 35PSI 5. Wash vehicle 6. Add mothballs to interior 7. Cover vehicle with car 8. Fill about 12 aluminum "turkey roasting pans" with about 3/4" of Calcium Chloride to absorb any moisture. |

Re: Winter
Yup the Mag Chloride on the roads here will eat all kinds of things, stuff hangs out even when it gets dry, small amount of wet on the road will stir it up. Best to go out when the snow is really deep, no Mag Chloride then.

Re: Winter
We spend all that time bringing them back to life no way am I packing it away for 7 or 8 months . When it gets real cold like -40 we just build a little fire under the engine till the grease turns back into oil and drive away .

Oh, and if you're going to drive on the wet salty roads in the winter be sure and take your windshield washer. Here's ours: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwBk24rxpq0
