I looked on the frame rail on the drivers side near the horns and found nothing. I thought the '41 would be about the same location as a 1940. Have I not cleaned a big enough area or is the vin located in another place on a 1941 sedan?

It's in the approximate same place as your '40 Fords Bill. Look between the front cross member and cowl on the left frame rail. I have seen most nearer the cross member but on occasion have seen them stamped darn close to the cowl.

Most '41 numbers are very near the front crossmember on top of the left frame rail.

Thanks everyone. I found it farther back on the frame rail than normal.

When I pulled the front off my '41 it had no VIN on it anywhere on the frame, from the firewall forward. I installed a plate with the VIN on the firewall.

If I was a DMV inspector and someone tried to pass off a VIN plate on the firewall they would be in trouble. But on the other hand most of them probably wouldn't know the difference.
