Gypsycandle: Eureka it runs!!
Hey Guys Well I've gotten the engine back together(minus the radiator for now).
I fixed the cam gear to it's proper alignment with the crank gear, put the cover back on and the head, noticed that the front yoke looked sad so i went underneath to discover that someone had put a really short spring a brake roller a huge washer and two smaller washers before and after the spring. So that was another project to replace that with the correct parts. In the mean time some of the threads were stripped on one of the yoke to block bolts, replaced that also. After adding some more gas . it started on the fourth turn over, with so much smoke coming out of the back (probably from all the MMO) that my neighbor across the street came running over, figuring that i had given up on it and set it on fire, lol Well again i only ran it for 30 seconds, sounds like it has plenty of power: tomorrow the radiator!! Progress is our only product. Again thanks for all the great advice. Michael... Last edited by gypsycandle; 05-17-2016 at 11:04 AM. |

Don't ruin that engine without it being full of water and hooked to a good radiator.

When it is all fully completed and THEN runs excellent . . . . . . then you are entitled to use an 'E' when you say "EUREKA" !

But I have to have one of the side brackets brazed today, it popped off the tank. Always something, that's what makes it so much FUN... Michael... |

Re: Gypsycandle: Eureka it runs!!
On my '28 Phaeton, the original radiator had those side tab brackets to hold the hood sides when opening the engine compartment. I grew to accept them as 'normal' and very useful. However thirty years later, when I replaced the original radiator with a 'heavy-duty, touring' radiator, it did NOT have those useful bracket tabs. I have been promising myself for thirty years now, to solder on two bracket tabs. But, never have. So I was excited to hear that you ARE going to do what I never got around to doing.
