My grand daughter driving my sept. 29
My 10 year old grand daughter has been wanting to drive the model A's . I told her when she got big enough to reach the pedals, I would teach her. Here we go!!!!!!!
I figured we would stay in first gear untill she got a feel for it. We've got trails that are good for her to learn on. The strip down is real peppy and it was a little scairy until she learned how to use the foot rest beside the accelerator button. She is getting use to the steering. At first had to remind her to steer it hard in the sharp turns. She only choked it down once, I figure thats pretty good. It won't be very long and I'll be teaching her how to double clutch Bailey loves model A's the same as my daughter and me . Before its over I'll have her setting points and timing. Nice Purdy, but I know my wife would be all over me for a helmet and seat belt. FWIW
Too bad more families can't slow down and smell the roses. She'll cherish these moments for the rest of her life. Paul in CT |

Man, I've just gotta make it down to Alabama. You've got the coolest place I've seen!
Well, after spending 6 months in Huntsville, maybe it's the hottest place I've seen. |

Congratulations on getting another one hooked on A's. I've got 13 grandchildren and 11 of them are 5 years and older. All 11 love the speedster and their eyes light up when we go for rides. The times with the grandchildren are priceless!

I don't know about Purdy Swoft but all my cars have seat belts. I feel naked without them.

Re: My grand daughter driving my sept. 29
Thanks Mitch and Paul for the kind words. Thanks Tom, We are a few hundred miles south of Huntsville, it gets hotter here. Its nice in the spring and fall and the winters ain't all that bad. Come on down, anytime. Thanks Ross, She has been growing up with model A's and now she wants to drive them. We only drive this one on trails. We never got out of 1st gear. Thanks tbirdtbird she was having a blast!

Re: My grand daughter driving my sept. 29
When my children were teenagers I took them to a very large parking lot on a Sunday and let them drive my Town Sedan. I wanted them to be able to say that the first car they drove was a 1930 Model A. We stayed in first the first time out. They will never forget it. Ed

Re: My grand daughter driving my sept. 29
Great pictures and a great day. That smile is worth a fortune. I always got a thrill out of teaching my girls (5 in all) to drive my Doodlebugs and assorted "rigs". I taught my Son to drive an antique Harley when he was 14. He drove my Royal Enfield after that, went on to get his bike license and bought his own antique motor bike. We spent 6 months getting it from Basket to roadworthy and then went on a ride together.
Now they are mostly grown and gone off, but they still comment, hey, remember when you let me drive that old...you had? Now that she can drive it, it is time to begin some basic maintenance lessons, be good to have an extra set of eyes and ears that know what to look for....

Re: My grand daughter driving my sept. 29
I got bit by the model A bug around 1955 when I was around 9 years old. The neighbors teenage kid had a strip down model A. I was hooked by the sound and look of his red brush painted 28-29 strip down. We would ride in the pastures where there was no real danger. One day Roger let me drive , it was in first gear with the throttle set at just above an idle . It was a real thrill for me!!! Rogers strip down still had fenders and a home made wood pickup box and seat, I can still see and hear it in my memory.
As a child, I was so hooked on model A's that I would wade through a briar patch just to see and touch the hulk of a junked model A. |

Re: My grand daughter driving my sept. 29
That is very neat! I have 6 granddaughters, but only 3 of them are close by, and the oldest of those is now 11, and has been asking a lot about "Emma", and when she can learn to drive it. I figure another couple of years or so and we can take her to a parking lot and learn. I am hoping that one day Megan will take over the Model A when the time comes..........
