Default Evapo-Rust

Anyone ever use Evapo-rust to clean rusty parts? It is a process that converts the rust so that it can be removed easily. I use it on rusty bolts and small pieces. Works great.

Yep, works great but pricey for what it is and wears out fast (at least for me). I've still got several gallons but have pretty much switched to Rust 911, especially when I need quantity. Gallon is $80 but dilutes to 16gal and seems to last longer.

Works great but you may want to try Rust 911. Works the same but it is in contracted form that you mix with water.
MUCH cheaper. You can buy it on line.

Evapo rust works well for me if the part is greaseless

Evaporust really works at 80-90-100 degrees temperature, DO NOT put it back into a closed container or you will kill it, don’t ask me how I found this out. It will also work as a penetrate to loosen screws and jets in carburetors

Wonder how this would work to de-rust the inside of a gas tank after it was washed out before sealing.

As I recall, someone used several gallons of Rust911 because it’s cheaper than Evaporust.

I have used evap rust with pretty good success for several years. The temperature is critical, typical garage temp (especially sitting on the concrete floor) is not warm enough for it to work

If you really want to do a nice job on fasteners, use a Harbor Freight vibratory tumbler with small ceramic media while using the Rust911 as a wetting solution in the tumbler. Remove the fasteners and then blot dry. Then use Gun Bluing solution and a sealer on the fasteners and they look really nice.
