Advise, opinion, comments please
I've got a '52 Ford w/ EAB motor has 36,000 miles on it - got it last Nov - going thru all the things that need checked out. Had a cooling issue - coolant lost and got hot - so I changed radiator cap, the thermostats, and the hoses - added a catch tank. All's good except the coolant level wants to stay just below the coils, which concerns me. So I played with a little but it kept pushing the water out to just below the coils. Someone on here mention on another thread to remove the rubber seal at the bottom of the cap and allow the water to go into the catch tank making the radiator unpressurized - so I did this and now the water level is above the coils and engine continues to run at the correct temperture. We are in the 90's here and the car is doing great in this heat even in stop & go traffic. So any thoughts or comments?

Have you had a radiator shop clean out or "rod out" the radiator? Sounds like you may have a radiator that is partially plugged which in turn pushes out the coolant. The catch tank is now catching the coolant that normally would be going on the ground.

[QUOTE=scooder;1151766]Dice,
Does your catch tank have a pressure cap on him? Martin.[/QUOTE It is not a sealed tank. Overflow hose from the radiator goes to the tank's bottom, and has a tank overflow hose at the top of the tank.

You said the car is doing great in this heat and stop and go traffic.
You're done. Leave it alone and move on to the next issue and count your blessings. |
