Mike, I had luggage racks on both my '36 Roadsters. They looked like they belonged. I had a very nice trunk from Varco, Inc. in Oklahoma on one of them.

However, based on Don's extensive research and the fact that he posted an errata sheet on the V-8 Club website on 12/12/2011 updating the 35-36 Book showing the limited use of trunks by Ford, there should be a 2-point deduction for unauthorized accessories if they are mounted on coupe, roadster, sedan delivery, or station wagon models.

It could be that the four square holes in the outside bars are there to bolt a trunk to the rack, however, there are ample belt slots around the edge of the rack to secure a trunk.

Bill,

I used carriage bolts through the square holes for my trunk. I'm sure the slots and belts would work well too.

It would appear that I am digging a deeper hole that would eliminate my '36 from being in a sanctioned EFV8 meet, with the "August/Standard tire cover", and now a unauthorized luggage rack.
of course the only time I have ever entered my '36 in a sanctioned EFV8 meet in the 71 years I have owned the car, was at a meet in Oxnard CA in 1974. "Most Popular Closed Early V8".

After I looked at, and read Ken's comment/Pix of the trunk on the back of his 36 Roadster, I quickly understood the need for a secure attachment, "carriage bolts", through the bottom of the trunk into the luggage rack, in lieu of just straps, to improve the security of the trunk.

A luggage rack on an EFV8 vehicle other than those mentioned by Don would loose 10 points for an incorrect accessory at an EFV8 National Meet. I bet a clever person could figure out how to mount a luggage rack on almost any EFV8 car but only those mentioned by Don would be a Ford factory or dealer installation. The 1932-1948 EFV8 judging sheets can be found here:
https://www.earlyfordv8.org/images/u...8_Aug_2013.pdf

I have no idea what would happen at an AACA meet as these seem to be, in my opinion, judged based on how pretty things look and the judging has nothing to do with original factory-supplied equipment.

Dave,

With respect, the point deduction for added accessories is only 2 points for each "major item". The 10 you are referring to is the maximum deduction for all unauthorized exterior accessories.

Yep, you are correct. That's what happens when I'm in a rush and forget the fine print. Thanks for correcting my post.

Bill,

Your car would be quite welcome at an Early Ford V-8 Club meet. The accessories deductions are quite minor. You have 50 points to "play with" and still get a Dearborn award.

Reading this thread made me go through the pics that I’ve collected researching the same thing. I have a worse for wear rack on the back of my fordor.
