You didn't say what type of vehicle but check out the pinion seals here.

Re: dana41 rear pinion seal
Looks like it's the same one used in 49-51 Mercury.

Re: dana41 rear pinion seal
I would say the correct seal is #5778V from O'Reilly.
Here's some complete measurements. Buy this caliper and you will be "good to go". http://www.ebay.com/itm/Digital-Elec...gAAOSwyLlXoApY http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...rd=pinion+seal Last edited by 19Fordy; 08-14-2016 at 09:26 AM. |

Re: dana41 rear pinion seal
There were 2 different types of seals used in the Dana 41 & 44. You can convert to the later seal but you have to have the right combination of parts on the pinion input. I still see the NOS Chicago Rawhide seals now and then on flea-pay. These were leather so they can be rejuvenated if they are in fact 60 year old parts.

Re: dana41 rear pinion seal
thanks guys, I have a caliber but I don't like the idea of not having the replacement seal on hand before I destroy the old one getting it out......so I'm just getting my ducks in a row. from what I can tell the o'reilly seal looks pretty close....I will use the caliber and eyeball some diameters with the old seal in place to get a better idea. I marked everything with a punch so I will try to get the preload on the bearings back to where it was...I hope
