Default 55 Ford Restoration

I am in the process of restoring a 55 Ford, 2 door Fairlane. It has a 272 Y-Block. I would like to put a late model engine and automatic transmission. I would like something that looks sharp and has reasonable amount of power. I would like something as close as possible bolt in. Give me some ideas. Thanks

302 or 351 is the usual swap. The 351 is a tight fit but it will go in. Suggest you post this on the Late V8 forum (top right of opening page). Lot's more discussions re: this over there. Also check the archives at the top of the Late V8 openeing page. Good luck!

Not trying to perpetuate a non-Flathead thread but won't most or all Ford FE's bolt in anyplace a Y-Block originally sat?
