Re: Henry Ford's Disassembly Line
I've seen another video about the disassembly of cars by Ford, mostly Model Ts. Recycling is not new.

Re: Henry Ford's Disassembly Line
Fascinating! It seems bad now but how many beat up 5-15 year old cars are we willing to save today when there are nicer ones to be had? Helps us to understand why some of our cars are valued what they are now.

Re: Henry Ford's Disassembly Line
This video reminds me of the Laurel and Hardy movie "Two Tars". It's hilarious! Enjoy your old car! LRF

Re: Henry Ford's Disassembly Line
To a person who does not love cars like most of us on this forum, they were only scrap. Not much different to those that are abandoned in fields etc years ago. Wish I had a field of them.

Re: Henry Ford's Disassembly Line
They probably were part of the drive by the big three to get rival older cars off of the road so that people would have to buy newer cars of theirs. Or they were trade ins.

Re: Henry Ford's Disassembly Line
There were several recessions as well as the great depression that happened over those early years before WWII. Ford did this stuff to help bolster the dealership system. Reducing the number of used cars on the market kept prices more steady on both the new and used car markets. Ford never wasted resources if they could help it and it was common to use some scrap metal along with the fresh materials in the manufacture of cast iron and steel for use in automobile manufacturing.

Re: Henry Ford's Disassembly Line
I've seen pics of these processes before and I would be surprised to learn this was a consistent policy but who knows. I doubt it was a PR gimmick but just experimentation by the Company to evaluate the economics....jusr guessing.
At one time the Company had a program to rehab used Model Ts for a modest sum but I don't think it was a permanent option. |
