Default Tie Rod

A simple question. Is the Tie rod bar solid or tubular?

Tie rod out of my '30 Tudor was solid with ends that threaded on.

Hey Vince,
The piece sure fooled me...from the heft, I would have bet it was solid. I have a couple in our parts pile...I may pick out a bent one and cut it to see for myself.
Interesting!

I just cut a '28 and it is tube, i was surprised. That was a clever piece of work. Now i got to clean it all up so's i can figure out the transition and how it was done.

Dave, don't waste one by cutting it. There have been some repro's (maybe all) that are made from a solid rod.

I'm with Dave in MN. I would have bet real money that they were solid as they are quite heavy. I think repro rods, like Tom W. stated, are solid rods. I have heard before that thick wall tubing is harder to bend than a solid rod. That seems counterintuitive, but it is probably true. That must have been the reason why Ford used tubing with plugged ends. I can't believe Ford did it just to save a little steel, but maybe that is why they made them that way.
