Default so much for NORS parts

So I thought I would replace my 36 water pumps since I was replacing my generator, belt and hoses. Can't find them @ Drakes...Carpenter has them but are pricey. I found a pair in my box of parts that came with the car (unused still in the box replacement pumps) and put them on after pumping some grease in the fittings. Right side pump is a gusher. Can't trust these old parts that were made in the day. The fit was good but I guess the seals were not.

In some cases, I have seen a thin wall section of those in head water pump castings cracked wide open when using modern high pressure, commercial grade, grease gun equipment.

As already mentioned, if you want a good set of water pumps, send a set of original pumps to Skip Haney in Punta Gorda Florida for rebuild.

Phil, Two possibilities here... the pumps may very well be NORS. However, being on a shelf for perhaps decades, can lead to dried out seals.
And, there's a possibility the pump(s) are not really NORS but the cores from a swap done many years ago.

I find that NOS bearings to be the same way. Finding old bearings to flake off some of the bearing material after use. You probably wouldn't notice this if you didn't strain the oil through a cloth or take apart the filter. We did this, after building a new engine and checking for bad things in the oil. Unfortunately, this is back when we ran high oil pressure, but it's something to be aware of. Sitting on a shelf for 75 years might not be good for it either.
