Default door latch

Today my left door handle came out of the door, I can't seem to get it re-installed, what keeps it in the latch? (1939 P/U)
Thanks
Buster

Would that be the internal or external door handle?

Tip the handle down to the 4 o'clock position and push it in and then tip it up slightly and push again and it should go in. Your handle is held into the latch by two screws that thread into the outside of the door through the escutcheon attached to the handle. 1938 should be the same as the 40-41 pickup.

Thanks TJ,it worked as advertised! Just have to find the correct size screws for the outside to hold it in place now.
Thanks again
