Hi all; I found another type... Known as ACV-IP or India Pattern. Manufactured in India, about 4,600 units, using Canadian Ford running gear. Mostly rear engined! Assembled by the Tatra Locomotive shops in India.

Interestingly I was told years ago that some that came here were assembled in India.Don't know if that was fact.I do know that the srap dealers were not keen on the body work after the conversion to forest fire engines as they had trouble cutting them up.Some bodies were buried in the river beds. All a long time ago.Cheers

The Tatanagars built at Tata Locomotive Works competed for the same frames & running gear as those made in South Africa. During the early 40s, we could get stuff shipped to India through international sources but it was still spotty. The Japanese Navy shot at just about anybody they wanted to after 1940. The USSR navy and their civilian ships could get through but only up til June of 1941 when Germany attacked them. After December of 1941, the Japanese shot at every ship they could find. After the German Wehrmacht was pushed out of North Africa, Ships could finally get through via the Mediteranian but not all ships made it. Getting supplies to India that couldn't go by air was a real challenge during WWII.

I think the S1 scout cars built up in Australia were also using similar frame & running gear.
