Hobby shops carry hot fuel proof dope (or did).
I’ve used ppg DP 90 epoxy before and it seemed to stay. Don’t have that car anymore so ….

I just used the last of my lustercoat. As noted, no longer available. I ordered two bottles of brodak and received an email they were out until early January, and he was sending a pint instead. They’re practically the same price between two small bottles and one pint, but I was worried about drying up after long term storage. Anyhow, it’s on the way.

I recently finished a couple Zeniths and painted them with the Brodak Dope. Flattening the Gloss Black Dope by 25% brought the paint to a very good color/sheen. After letting the paint cure, I tested two of the carbs on the car and they held up very well with no paint loss. Originally I tried to spray the paint but getting it thinned so it would spray was a challenge. I then bush painted the flattened paint which had also been thinned slightly and I think it turned out even better.

I find what we call 2 pack ( expoxy) paint is best for ease and fuel resistance (brush painted on ). But are you allowed to to have it for DIY use it in the USA though?

Thanks for this thread! I just had the paint washed of my Zenith yesterday. Is it supposed to be flat or gloss?

Flat or Gloss? This is from Steve Pargeter's excellent Zenith Model A Carburetor Restoration Guidelines.. As others have recommend -Tom Endy's article is excellent too. Paul Moller's book was published in 1993, it has some poor advice and unecessary appraoches that are no longer needed thanks to better parts availability nowdays

Has anyone tried to do it the original way or is that just insane at this point?

I know this isn't for everyone, but I had mine coated with Cerakote ceramic coating. They will never need to be painted ever again.
