TAMS Model A Parts
Anyone know how to contact them? Are they still in business? I placed an order for a large single item and it’s been crickets. I’ve tried calling the numbers on their web page and Google and just a terminal ring, no voicemail option. I also emailed them and nothing.
I’ve never ordered from them and I want to give them the benefit of the doubt. However, this part is critical and if they can’t fill it I’ll go with another vendor. Just looking for an acknowledgement of my order and ability to fill. |

If the check or credit card has not been tapped, then you could put in a "stop payment" order......that is, if a sufficient amount of time has passed to make that decision.

Re: TAMS Model A Parts
They’re good folks and I’ve done work for them with no problem.
They regularly set up at Hershey so that could be it. I don’t know about them and Carlisle I would think they would put a message on website or answering Last edited by Oldbluoval; 10-05-2021 at 07:53 PM. |

Re: TAMS Model A Parts
I have done frame off restorations on 2 Model A's over the past 12 years or so, and have used Tam's for most of the I parts needed. He ships packages daily
and being 50 miles away from his place I get them next day. He may very well be in Carlisle or Hershey, I know he goes every year and sets up to sell. It's just Joe and his daughter Joann running the place, if he is away she may not be near the phone. His number is 800-272-7871. Keep trying, Joe is a good guy and will make it right. |

Re: TAMS Model A Parts
x2....most of my stuff comes from TAMS. She's even called me after I've placed an online order to confirm what I'm ordering is correct. Met him a few weeks ago at the Epping swap meet where he brought large parts for me to pick up to save on shipping. Never had a problem calling them. They must be away....

Re: TAMS Model A Parts
Ok, not a good way to run a business and certainly not a good first impression for me. His web page said he would be at Hershey, but nothing about delayed orders, response etc. Won’t make this mistake again.

Huuum
You consider that little burp a mistake? Then you better not deal with about 75% of vendors in that business. Just my opinion which, granted, isn’t worth anything |

You & I likely agree that websites are a necessity for business today, HOWEVER most do not realize that websites have become complicated and are VERY expensive to maintain. Most small businesses must rely on an outside company to make updates. Outside companies use employees that are very techie ...meaning they want high wages. Therefore the web company must charge accordingly. For the web company to make an update to add a 'Hershey note', -only then in a week the web company must go back to remove that update is likely a $200-$300 expense each time an update is needed. So for a small business owner (-that is likely struggling in this economy) to fork over as much as $600 just to let a few (-possibly more impatient) customers know they are going to be away for a few days is a total waste IMHO. Then to continue that message by saying add verbiage about delayed shipping, etc. on something most would consider as a part of him being away also seems foolish. So just accept that he let you know he would be away at Hershey and be patient. I will also add something that I feel you need to consider. In my opinion you should build a relationship with whichever dealer you decide to work with on a continual basis to ask questions. If your plan is just to purchase this item and use them this one time, then IMO your order just needs to be filled whenever they get to you. It is my experience that most 'big ticket' items have a very small profit margin anyway, -so they are likely not missing out on much anyway if you chose to take your business elsewhere. I realize this seems harsh, but it is not meant to be. I think you can make proper decisions that are best for you when you can factor in all the facts. |

Re: TAMS Model A Parts
Some great points made here and a number of things I didn’t consider.
I was actually able to talk with Joanne this morning and she was great. They are having some tech issues with their web site acknowledging the order. The auto email has some type of fault. She said a number of customers have mentioned this. She’s one deep and the phone has been ringing off the hook, time got away from them and they weren’t able to create a notification that they were out. All though my order was small, she went the extra step and tried to locate one and will let me know when its available. Guess I jumped the gun, So I withdraw my misplaced criticism, all is well |

Joe must be 150 years old. No wonder he doesn't answer the phone.
