Default Intake Questions

Hey everyone,

I removed the intake on my Edsel's 292 and have a few questions. I have an extra that I picked up from a junk yard a few years back. They both have their flaws but I can't decide which is better. Here are a few comparison photos:

Old

Junkyard

Junkyard

Now, here are some casting numbers. Only a slight variations in the two. Can someone explain the difference?

Old

Junkyard (Last Letter is "B")

If anyone requests more pics, I will gladly oblige. And if anyone can recommend what to do to get these cleaned up and properly assessed (Like what shop to take them to / what to have done to them) I'm all ears.

What you have is not worth the expense of having them blasted, buy this:http://www.ebay.com/itm/HOT-ROD-FORD...a00edb&vxp=mtr The amount of corrosion in the ones you have would make them suitable for boat anchors. The smaller primaries in the 4BBL should up your MPG for cruising.

If you want to keep your two barrel carb (keep it original??) I would use the "Old" manifold, simply because it appears to have less corrosion.

I have done different things to the Y block manifold.
Have taped off all ports and sandblasted the outer surfaces.
Also chemically dipped the complete bare assembly.
Run compressed air to blow out all passages.
Chase all threads, prime, paint, etc. and she will look like a million bucks.
Both ways are OK, the sandblast method takes longer though.
Make sure you replace the choke tube in any case.
Good luck.

Is that rust through holes that I see?
Take a body pick hammer and tap all around.
Loosen all of the scale to determine wall thickness that is remaining...
You may get lucky and and be able to get by with a skim coat of silicone on the new gaskets to make it leakproof.

Agreed! Throw that away. You should be able to pickup a good one for $20. Maybe I still have an extra, having sent more than a dozen to China over the last few years.
