Re: Shift levers ?
I had a '40 pickup in 1960 from a neighbor that bought it new from a nearby dealer for $555 he said; the last one left on the lot, in the Ford green for that year. The floor shift was one of the top two.
And, why would the '60' trans differ from the '85' trans? The '60' flathead apparently was a 'smaller' block to accommodate the 'smaller' piston diameter?;( i.e., beer can/soft drink-can diameter?). Henry known for being 'tight', why not use the '85' block for the smaller '60' pistons. . . ? Thank you in advance for your accommodation! Last edited by highbeams; 01-15-2023 at 12:33 AM. Re: Shift levers ?
The 39 Mercury stick is taller than the 39 Ford.

Re: Shift levers ?
Neither of the top two are '35s. The '35 shift lever still had the same short bottom end as the '32-'34 shift levers whereas those in the photo have the long bottom end characteristic of the '36-'39 shift levers.

Re: Shift levers ?
With all due respect, I would have to side with Will Kimble over DavidG on this one. After further enlarging petehoovie's first attached picture, I believe the two top shift levers are '35's, with the contour of the first lever being slightly altered or straightened. The bottom ends of the first two levers do appear to me to be slightly shorter than the bottom end of the third lever down from the top.

Re: Shift levers ?
So, are we concluding that both top items are definitely 35 ? Any one need them ?

I have no clue what that 4th lever, at the bottom of your picture, actually came out of.

The bottom one looks like a Model A to me.

Re: Shift levers ?
Bottom one is V8-60. Top three all have short stubs for ‘32-35 towers.

Re: Shift levers ?
You may be right about all of top three having short stubs, but #3 sure looks a bit longer than the first two to me, but it may be the angle the picture was taken that's confusing me. I'll take a look at the 60hp shifter top that I own to see if it has a lever like #4 at the bottom.

Re: Shift levers ?
I could be wrong, need to measure to be sure. Tell tale sign is the short ones are a little crooked looking at the tip just before the ball

Re: Shift levers ?
Another reason the 3rd lever looks ‘32ish to me is in the picture it looks about the same length as the ‘35s. A commercial lever (‘40-52) would have a similar bend but is much longer. Things I’ve learned digging through hundreds of these at swap meets, auctions, etc.
