Default How come this won't come apart?

Hi all,
Gumpy (Steve) sent me excellent instructions on the restoration of the steering lock ignition on my '39 1/2 Ton. All is well except for the last part. How come the cylinder will NOT release from the body??? I'm going crazy!!!

When you say cylinder I take it you are reffering to the bolt that slides in and out when the key is turned and not the key cylinder itself. As you look the the lock in the picture ,the ring that has the post sticking out of it that moves the bakelite switch is around the bolt. The bolt has a small key in it and that ring has a slot in it. You must align the two for the bolt to slide out . Hope that helps.

Forgot to mention also that the the fat end of the bolt, the end that you can see , will need to be pressed or pulled off , it is splined . Usually this can be done by sliding the bolt out far enough to get something behind it to hold it then drive the center out. You will also need to remove the on/off plate.

Ken, thanks and yes I was writing about the shaft - not the lock cylinder. I've tried to find the slot in the ring and can't seem to move it that far. Could it be because the woodrift key needs to be removed? Also on the shaft, I don't see the splined part that I can press off. Is there a diagram some where?

You cant see the splines. Looking at the picture ,that big end on the bolt or pin that slides in and out of the housing is what has to come off ,then the pin or bolt can be pushed out towards the steering tube hole.

Ken, I got it all apart now. Once I tapped on the big end, it all became clear. Thanks for all your help.
