Default Changed Coil, No Spark

I had to change the coil in my stock 51 Ford with 6V + ground system. I hooked up the ignition side to the negative side of the coil and the ground side (points) to the positive side of the coil. No spark. Is this wrong? Anybody have this problem?

Was the old coil working?

Not wrong. That is correct.

Got voltage at the coil coming from the ignition switch?

Yes and old coil may or may not have been working. Not sure. Hot wired negative to battery and still no spark.

Ok. You have voltage at the coil. You have tried two different coils. My next thought goes to condenser. Have you tried a new condenser?

I found the problem. The condenser was the issue. It measured .3 ohms to ground. Almost a direct short. I changed that and it fired right up. It was new and defective. Probably another China product. Lesson learned: Make sure you check them with a ohm meter first. There should be no continuity to ground!
