Stainless Model A
Does anyone remember an article in the restorer about a Stainless Model A sedan? It was located here in Chattanooga at one time but I believe the owner let a nephew take it up north maybe Ohio to sell for her. I have all the Restorers but I would like to narrow it down a little as to where to start looking for it. Thanks for any help.

That is the one that was here in Chattanooga. If I remember right the asking price was something like 1 million dollars and it didn't sell last I heard.

That should help a lot. There was an article in one of my old Ford Books long out of print but in one of my books there is another article about all the other Stainless Cars, I look today but so far I couldn't find that article either so far. Will look again tomorrow. Thanks again. |

One was on eBay a few years ago. It didn't meet the reserve.

Re: Stainless Model A
Wow, wouldn't that be nice on modern cars? No more rust! That's why I've got my eye on a 2015 or newer F150. Aluminum body will last much longer in our salty winters, but now stainless, that would be something.

I don't know this for a fact but I have heard that the new Ford trucks are very easy to dent and puncture. I guess time will tell.

Re: Stainless Model A
I hope Ford has the corrosion issue under control. Most of the Mustang hoods starting I think in 2005 had corrosion issues. This involved several years and Ford said the hoods were contaminated from steel shavings. My wife's 2005 Mustang hood has this issue...looks like rust under the paint.

Re: Stainless Model A
do you drive it in the salt? It just takes a rock chip, little saltwater to start the corrosion then it goes rampant. I've seen it quite alot here in the rust belt on aluminum panels. Same goes for any alloy/ aluminum rim. It's fine up until you need new tires and when the steel wheel weights are removed it scratches the clear coat. One winter later its peeling/ crusting. Few more winters the tire refuses to hold air as the bead is corroded to allow microscopic leaks past...

Re: Stainless Model A
I just saw a tv show showing an actual stainless Ford at a museum a couple days ago. It was a late '30s model I think. The jist of what I heard while I was working was that Ford made 6 every year for 6 specific dealers. The top salesman of that year would get the honor of driving it for the whole year as their daily driver.

Re: Stainless Model A
As I recall seeing the stainless steel Fords at the American Society of Metals show in Philly many years ago, on display there was:
> 1931 Model A Tudor; > 1936 Tudor; > 1960 Lincoln; > 1960 Thunderbird. All were made by an outside firm using Ford's body tooling.
