Default Checking vin numbers????

Hello fordbarners,

I wanted to ask you guys. If you might know of any website or company to use to check if vin numbers are clear??

Or if you guys use say triple A or the dmv to check if vin numbers are clear???

I would like to see if the numbers on my frame are clear, and thought I would ask you guys, who or what you use to do so???

Thank you very much for your help

and have A great day =)

Unless you're law enforcement, I don't believe it can be done. If you know the last titled state (or last registration state) you could try contacting that state's DMV or Sec of State. They MIGHT be able to help you. Why are you concerned?? JMO
Paul in CT Where are you located?

What State do you live in? It's legal in Mass through the DMV.

You need to find someone who can do a 50 state check to be sure that number isn't in use in another state. In CA we use the CHP. You will have to take your frame to them for them to do it

What if you find out that someone else owns your car? I think you would be opening a can of worms. I have a basket case roadster that I bought with a bill of sale. A friend of mine is a retired cop and told me that if you inquire about a vin number in California, they will want to know why. If I ever finish that car I think I'll let the DMV attach a new number to it. Don't make waves.

Thank you guys for writing me back I appreciate it. And thank you for the information and for the advice =)

Well I am in california in the bay area. And I have a few frames and bodies, but I do not have a title for them. So I wanted to see if the frame #'s are clear and if so, then see about using them for my bodies to put them back together

thank you guys again =)

i'd suggest contacting your local california highway patrol vin officer , some require appointments , i just walk in with questions , present your i.d. for them to copy, they will attach it to their application for title and have that desired vin# or all of them prepared . they will run those numbers and get back to you by phone.
i do not suggest offering a frame only since they seem to prefer a functioning situation .
although just the frame number is needed for the chp inspection. i've only titled previous to dismantling .
verify the vin then build.
i'd hate to restore something with another owners number on it . surely that's happened .
