12 volt starting
I've changed my 36 to 12 volt and need to know if I'm missing anything required yto change for the starting circuit. I used a Ford starter solonoid with 2 large studs and 2 small ones marked S and I. The S goes to the start terminal on the switch and I'm thinking the I goes to the + on the coil via a 1.5 ohm resistor block. I'm using a stock crab distributor. What about the condensor , it's from the 6 volt days so far. Any and all advice would be appreciated - haven't touched flatheads since I was a kid!

Re: 12 volt starting
It would help if we had the part number of the solenoid you
have as they can have different internal wiring. See the diagram that was posted in another thread. Bob |

Re: 12 volt starting
The condenser doesn't care about voltage, although if it is an old one, it MAY be junk.
Change all of your light bulbs to 12v types. DD |

Re: 12 volt starting
You need a ign switch with two terminals. The 12v solenoids work with voltage applied vs. the 6V style that just grounds it. You need to send 12V to the solinoid.

Re: 12 volt starting
Looks like it is a #3 circuit.
If you want it to work with a grounded starter button it looks like an S601 solenoid would work, it is circuit #2 Bob Last edited by Bob C; 01-10-2015 at 08:20 PM. |
