V-8 Hardware and Fasteners
Where can we get Early V-8 hardware and fasteners now that Roy N. is gone?
RIP Roy. I need the hardware that holds the tail light stands to the rear fenders for 1937 Ford (L&R). The hardware that is on my car appears to be original (crudded over and rusted) and I have no confidence that the fasteners can be removed with out breaking them or damaging them. Drakes used to carry them but now they don't. Joe's and Mac's don't have them either. Any help appreciated. Thanks. TonyM |

Re: V-8 Hardware and Fasteners
Good question. Perhaps Michael Driskell will be able to respond when he's back from vacation.

Re: V-8 Hardware and Fasteners
I wondered about this as the Early Ford books I have only have finishes and the Parts green book list all fasteners as s1 finish. So, I looked up the founding date of the SAE which is one thread spec and I found 1905 and one of the founding vice presidents was Henry Ford. USS which is another thread spec can be found similarly as coarse instead of fine. ASTM bolts and nuts are for structural not automotive. Grade 2, Grade 5, Grade 8 those are the strengths I know. I did once consider buying a dune buggy kit until I saw it had kitchen hardware with square nuts.

Re: V-8 Hardware and Fasteners
Seth is totally correct. It's only thanks to Third Gen Automotive/Michael/1935fordtn (ebay), that my '35 is even close to a working machine. Buy with confidence, and often. Clutch clevis, special brake shaft pins, starter switch, wiring of every sort, it's impossible to add up the essentials!
But I find a way to recycle every piece possible on my car. Rusty stuff gets treatment, both before removal and before putting it back. I despise the Phillips screws and hash marked bolts previous owner installed on my '35 Touring.
