Default Tappet Cups for Miller/Cragar OHV?

Hello,

I am in need of some replacement tappet cups for my Miller/Cragar OHV. These are the small adapters that sit on top of the lifter and have a cup on the opposite side to receive the pushrod.

Does anyone know where I could find these?

At one time I came across an NOS package of these for sale on Ebay, but I don't recall the manufacturer or part number to search for them again.

I know I can replace the original lifters with new adjustable units with a built in cup, but I was hoping to avoid pulling the cam to do so.

Joe,

typically the adjustable lifters have a 3/8-24 thread, you can use a sockethead cap screw.
this will accept a 5/16" ball pushrod.
Some adjustable lifters had a different thread, in that case I just use a 5/16 ball mill and make a recess in a hex head bolt. If you do this make sure to go deeper than half the ball diameter.

What John said, or contact Steve Serr at Miller High Sped Head Company if you want to purchase the ones he sells with his heads.

Dan and John,

I currently have the factory original lifters, so they are solid without any provision for an adjustment screw.

Attached below are a few photos of the actual part that I'm looking for.

Notice how the lip around the bottom edge is beat up a little from the lash being too loose.

Jon,

Have not run across any of those, sorry.

I do know the original pushrods were just a flat end to ride on the original factory lifters.
These were found to be lacking in reliability and as performance demands grew the ball end became more desirable.
You may have to make them, or have them made.
