Default Welting above and below 1930 running boards?

I'm about to install running boards on the 1930 Town Sedan that I'm restoring.

Question regarding frame welting: Should the running boards be mounted on top of the frame welting, with no additional welting installed between the running board and the body? Or should the running boards be mounted directly on top of the frame, with welting then installed between the running board and the body?

In other words, what's the proper welting/running board/body "sandwich"?

Thanks.

D.J.--

Thanks for the link, which is indeed very interesting.

Maybe I'm thicker-headed than I thought, but after reading all that I'm still not clear as to what is the "original formula" for installation of running boards/spash aprons on a 1930 Town Sedan (as it relates to chassis welting).

Can anybody enlighten me?

Many thanks!

TT

Welting is on the frame, splash apron on top of welting. Body blocks have rubber between the bottom of the block and the top of the splash apron, with the wood side against the sub frame. Running boards rest on thin anti squeak welting which is placed on top of the brackets.
