Question Tie-Rod Question

Hey All,

I'm installing a new tie-rod, end's and ez steering kit and a new drag link but I'm having difficulty in installing the tie-rod ends onto the balls. Seem's the spring is just to powerful to move and the ball barely fit's the opening without the spring and cap installed. I have filed a small chamfer in the tie-rod end and a slight relief in the bevel on the nylon, ... NOPE. I then used a wood F-Clamp with the end cap slightly threaded in for support, ... not a chance in hell.

Next thought, would be to press the tie-rod end onto the ball and then take a 5/16 plastic dowel with a ball end on it and hopefully smack the nylon seat back for a split second.

All new parts, tie-rod, both ends, ez kit, steering arms, am I missing something here?

Regards
Bill

Hi Bill,
I think what Paul in CT(1931 Flamingo) is asking, although you say that everyting is new, “is anything not perhas stuck in there”
There is a little brass cup to hold the spring in position and sometimes they are stuck in the back by old grease.

If they are too tight, it will be hard to steer!
