Default oil pump bottom plate gasket

I did a search on here. Looked in my bulletins.I can't find an answer to this question. are you supposed to use a gasket on the bottom plate of the oil pump? I disassembled my pump and there was no gasket I looked in 2 used pumps and there was no gasket either but the parts breakdown shows a gasket.any ideas? Thanks, Steve

Only if the pump locks up with out a gasket. If you use a gasket most of the time you will have to much clearance between the gears and plate. In most engines on al kinds of cars they never use a gasket there.

Thanks. Ill remember that when i need to rebuild the new pump i have to buy because i broke this one. Seems the bushing was a little bit too big in diameter. I should have measured it first.

Also if the bottom plate has wear on it, on most of the pumps, they can be flipped over so you have a new surface.

Another way is to lap it on a glass plate and lap the pump body also.
