If you don't have access to an enclosed trailer get a U-Haul auto trailer. Would not jus use a tow dolly. No need to spin that rear axel on the trip.

Ted,
The business of hauling cars around the USA has become quite competitive. There are now many companies that do it. They use either open car haulers or enclosed trailers. Your choice. They will pick up at any location and deliver to any address. Get quotes from several companies. You will be surprised how inexpensive it is.

Ted, that's a pretty vague question. Is it a project to a restored car? Does it run or even roll for that matter? If it's a convertible or car that has any value an enclosed trailer would probably be your best option. There are a few guys here on the Ford Barn that haul for a living with great reviews. If you hire a commercial semi type hauler keep in mind it may be off loaded and transferred to multiple trucks on its way to you.

There are several shippers/haulers on the HAMB that have a good rep. Do your homework, ask for references. Have all your ducks in a row when speaking to the shipper, just as Uncle Buck points out ......

Are you looking to have it professionally moved from it's current location to a shipping broker in LA or are you a hands on kind of traveling man? Condition of the car is important too as was already mentioned.

Many ways to do it - or have it done . . . kind of depends on the car itself (restored, worth a lot of money, etc?).

I would not use an open-trailer for anything of high value and/or restored with good paint on it, etc.. Why have it out in the open, why make it easy to be seen, why risk hail and road damage, etc.. BUT, the prices will vary all over the place depending on the car itself (running, stopping, etc) - and the type of service you are expecting. Make sure the hauler is insured and bonded - and checkout his reputation as price is not everything!

Ted are you bringing a vehicle to NZ? I had one in full running condition hauled from Florida to LA can't get much further and I used a company called Transitainer based out by Auckland Airport they also hauled for me from Northern CA to LA with no issues I used Mainfreight to get a car from Northern Brisbane to Napier they are not as good in terms of communication but it still arrived in good nick

Lightbulb Re: Hauling car

Depends on the car ....

Open transport for any car is a gamble.

There is the likelihood of hail damage along that route.

The best way to transport a vehicle is direct from pick up to drop off in
an enclosed trailer.

There are 3 QUALITY transporters over on the Hamb : BenD, Racinman & Myself. Our ads can be found in the Hamb O Dex section, where you can see pictures of our equipment & hundreds of references posted by the ACTUAL customers that have used our service in the past. We all offer a variety of both open or enclosed single or two car trailers & are also REAL car guys. Give one or all of us a call, P.M. or email for a cash on delivery price quote.
