Default Phenolic spacer

Has anyone used a phenolic model A carburetor spacer. If so what were the results. I realize the ambient temp affects fuel vapors but I thought a insulator would be a good start to help solve the problem.

What problem are you trying to solve? Jack

Have made several using 1/4 inch phenolic material. I made them for use of "Tillie" carbs to reduce warping.

I agree with the good idea to reduce "Tillie" warping. I was looking for one to reduce heat transfer to Zenith carb bowl and subsequent vaporization. They are available for modern 4-BBL carbs at car swaps and shows. I have not found the 1/4 in phenolic material yet. I guess I should look harder.

I am trying to avoid buying expensive fuel. My last A had fuel vapor problems but nothing like my current A is having.

Are you using engine pans to direct the air from radiator along side of the engine and over the carburetor?

I would make a stainless heat deflector plate to fit where the carb bolts to the manifold.
Also try using a quart of diesel mixed with each 10 gallons of gas.

Vic
Vic...try Grainger or MSC. They both offer different size sheets and thicknesses too.

Daren.............Don't laugh as I made a cover for my glass sediment bowl from a foam beer cooler I had in the shop. On a long tour in eastern Washington (high desert) my sediment bowl and carb ran 20 degrees cooler than the other cars in our group.

I can keep the fuel bowl and line cool no problem. I have received some help in the Carb area and thanks to those who gave it. The main problem is the fuel boiling/vapor in the carb. I have the engine pans but perhaps I should remove them. I had the similar issue with my 70 Challenger. Swapping the AFB for a Thermoquad did absolute wonders. The main body was a composite and kept the fuel much cooler. I want to isolate the carb from the intake manifold for starters and move on from there.

I’ve had one Bob made for me, on the car for years and thousands of miles. It will change the angle of your gav though.
I also put the piece of sheet metal behind the carb. Really helps in hot weather for stopping the gas from prematurely vaporizing, and helping smooth out the idle. I used a heat gun to measure the temperatures of each side of the carb, and the front versus the back of the exhaust manifold. The different temperatures of the carb were amazing. With the shield it’s much closer to the same temperature, side to side.

Be careful. It will reduce heat transfer, but it will lower your carb by 1/4 in. Your choke rod may bind up.

This will make everyone's hair stand up on end- Paint that Zenith appliance white to reflect heat rather than black which absorbs heat. Instant 20 degrees cooler. Hey, it will detract attention away from that alternator which doesn't belong there either.

I am aware of the GAV adj rod, I can deal with it. If white works I would be ok with that too. A heat shield would be ok. The ambient temp under the hood is hot. Really hot. As it is the car is not fun to drive.
