1939 Ford wide 5 front brakes
Hi again,
2 questions: What is the maximum inside diameter for the front brake drum before it needs to be replaced? - 1939 Ford coupe with original wide 5 wheel studs. Is anyone selling new replacement drums for the above car? Thanks, Mike |

To my thinking, 80 over is the limit.
No one is making new wide fives drums or wheels, that I'm aware of. |

I can agree with the 60 over, if the drums were plentiful. Maybe they are. I'll keep my fingers crossed for 4 NOS drums, but I have little hope.
Make sure you find a experience drum cutter. These won't chuck up on a 1" lathe and sometimes they like to over cut them. |

Has nothing to do with plentiful. It's the law! You really don't want to rear-end someone who ends-up with "whiplash", and his insurance company WILL find those over-cut drums. You won't like the outcome. To each his own! DD

Re: 1939 Ford wide 5 front brakes
After doing some research on my own, I'll eat crow on this one and like it.
I've read on threads before that .080 was okay. I do not want to further bad information or more importantly give any advice that is unsafe. So if anyone is reading this... .060 is the limit. as coop mentioned. Now I'll just sprinkle some lawry's on my lunch. http://collision.alldata.com/online2...ely_turned.htm |
