Default Pitman arm

Help,
Installed a shorted pitman arm on my 1930 pickup which already had a dropped
axle. The pitman arm was install with the ball facing out, have seen picture of the pitman ball facing the frame, which is right? or does it matter?

Think you Mike

It should face inward. Check this thread https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45535

Mike...yes, as Bob says...stock position is INWARD facing pitman ball (that is , unless someone has made a draglink with adjustable end (s) ). In which case..the pitman "could" face outboard. What ,if any, affect this outward facing pitman arm would have on steering geometry..don't know??

Ok, another question regarding the drag link: why are the two ends of a stock draglink arm 'different'...as to ball hole placement?

BTW the draglink can be put on 180 both ways??

Steve,
Almost willing to bet....you have a dropped axles....just like Mikes' .
I say this cause when you change the front axle (i.e.- drop, etc) requires threaded/adjustable drag links..no?

Steve is referring to TIE ROD, not DRAG LINK. Now all this discussion about pitman arm ball placement has me wondering which way it's installed on our car. Must be facing in as the drag link is not adjustable.

If you sight down the pitman arm, you will notice that the ball is off centerline with the square hole for the steering sector shaft. Ball goes to the inside to maintain steering geometry.
