From my older copy of the JS:
There was more then one coating (or lack of) on the stop pins, including black oxide, cad and plain depending on year and other fittings on the carb. This may have been updated in newer copies.

Enough wrong statements above, so I will move on and Clarify one more Wrong thing said about ALL Carbs from the Factory.. Both Top & Bottom were DIP Painted and every thing was covered in Black including all passages & Bowls... If you ever find a NOS one, try and glass bead it off...I have had two, and its very hard to do..

Dipped and then when they dried everything was installed. I was reading that in the JS and scratching my head because I have been told otherwise in the past as well.
