36 Pickup with dual side mount spares ?
My 36 pickup has factory dual side mount spare tires. Driver side running board has the dimple like the passenger side. My truck was bought new by the US mint in Denver CO. Have any of you guys ever seen one of these?

Never seen a live one but there is a picture on the cover of an old V8 Times, showing Jimmy Carter (don't know if he was president then) riding on the running board of one if I remember correctly.

Re: 36 Pickup with dual side mount spares ?
Over the years I have owned and later sold 3 of the driver side running boards with a dimple for the spare. I was thinking about running dual spares, but decided not to because the stock pickup only has the one side mirror and I had concerns, realistic or not, about visibility with a driver side spare. One of mine I purchased out of Nebraska and the other two were out of Kansas and Eastern Oregon respectively.

Re: 36 Pickup with dual side mount spares ?
Many years ago I owned a '36 & a '37 with running board spares mounted on the right side, don't recall ever seeing a EFV8 with a left hand mounted spare.
I would say that since Ford sold vehicles all over the world, some being left hand drive and some being right hand drive, and the possibility that some people would want an extra spare tire, the running boards with the left hand provision would, could be, a fairly common application in some areas..

Re: 36 Pickup with dual side mount spares ?
My "American Light Duty Truck" book claims that a left-hand spare was available for the pickup in 1936. Probably didnt sell a lot of them.

Re: 36 Pickup with dual side mount spares ?
The standard installation of a single side mount was on the side opposite the driver, but the dealers could order it for the driver's side as an alternative if that was the buyer's preference.
