It is so different on the Ford Barn than where I came from, The hamb. They found out I build my Hot-Rods Old School. No chrome B_S or 10,000 Paint job Here in Farm land we do not put you down if you build it yourself.Reading Sea Slugs post about pallets and ruff lumber, That is music to my ears. And yes Martha I have a big old HAMB member ship Placard on the radiator shell of my RAT- Rod Boy does it piss them off Don in Indiana

I was Googling around to see what your plate JITRBUG means. Maybe not my first choice for a license plate, but I like it. https://youtu.be/pIgZ7gMze7A

Still looking for that Ziegfeld gal though!!!!

I have 2 suitcases, similar to the bottom one, one has a RAT/MOUSE hole in it, perfect for a car named "VERMIN" & with my RAT TERRIER, Buster T., as my CO-PILOT! And strapped down on my ZIP-A-RAK, telescoping luggage rack.
Gregg "autographed" one, it sez, "SAMMY DAVIS JR--PACK RAT" & a date. I'll lash them down with Chiefs' old FAT Cowboy belts, when he retired & got REALLY FAT.

Grit Guy,
If you want to soften that leather case some more, just swab it OFTEN with NEATSFOOT OIL.

Some STRANGE OLD tool box would look GOOD on a rack, useful too!
GURU, Claude, gave me an expanding runnin' board rack, I "might" see how it would look on the back edge of my telescoping rear rack??
My rear rack is STRONG, "maybe" I'll strap down a Model A Shortblock on it??

I cleaned it good with Leather balm before I mounted it. I'll clean it again when I take it off for the winter. Sarah will be in the hospital over the winter anyway.

Try your local equestrian store and get some saddle soap to clean and soften it. Then use dubbin (from a good shoe store) to keep it waterproof.

I know MINK OIL is great for restoring dried leather like old WW2 gun slings, boots, etc and to soften and protect leather of all types. Ive used it on slings and does work wonders.

Menards has it in a suntan lotion looking bottle near the cleaners or sometimes the leather boots/boot supplies (like laces, cleaners, polish etc)

31 Model A....the really high-end cars like Duesenberg, maybe Lincoln, Packard and Cadillac, sometimes came with a matched set of luggage designed to drop into the trunk sitting on the rear of the car. I don't think the luggage looked like your momento of your old college days, they were usually flat-topped to drop into the trunk. The luggage pieces did look small compared to modern ones, perhaps Packard owners travelled light back then.

Yes, I remember those uppity-up college boys who drove daddy's Duisenberg's and Packard's, they had all the good looking rich college babes during the day, I had them at night!!!!

Nah, put the long motor on there and be done with it. Think of the wear you'll save on the front tyres!!

WHoops lol theres a life lesson for you... i do wear redwing boots at work and they are by far the best boot out there., love thier "wide foot" where they give extra space in the toes. mine have held up remarkably well.

The last leather item I pulled out of an old barn was brittle and smelled of mouse urine so your barn might not be a real barn at all. Rod

31 Model A, I too sold Grit papers around the age of 12 and have never forgotten a saying the paper had on the front page.

It said " Spring has sprung,
The grass is riz,
I wonder where
The birdies is? "

Reminds me now of the Burma Shave signs we used to see along the highway on about every third or fourth fence post. ( or farther apart possibly.)

I believe that 31 Model A is pulling your leg. Anyone who went to college in 1932 would be over 100 years old, today.
