30-31 Cowl Lights Need Help !
I bought a pair of used cowl lights that seem to have mixed internal parts. Ordered the bulb holders that came with a rivet but there is nothing to rivet them to. I can't find one single diagram or exploded view parts image for these.
Any help would be appreciated .. |

See that hole at the base of the reflector? That's the hole for the rivet'

what you have is an early 30 cowl light and I do not think anyone make parts for them. it looks like you have all the correct parts in the picture with the exception of the yoke that holds it all together has part of if broken off. the socket that you purchased is for the later 30-31

the bulb holder is too large to fit through the reflector I can't seem to find any of the internal hardware on the parts suppliers website, or even a picture on the internet of one apart, everything I have is what you see

My cowl lights are also mixed up, one like this one, and the other the more common type. The one like this was missing the part that makes the electrical contact at the center-back of the bulb. I ended up making a temporary part with an old credit card.
That was four years ago. My temporary fixed is still going strong. Ken

Yes the car is an early 30 with the 29 instrument panel, so that makes sense. I will probably have to build them as hybrids.

Re: 30-31 Cowl Lights Need Help !
here is what the difference is
the early 30 lamps are completly different than the later ones the bulb mount is different the lens is different the rim is different the reflector is different the early one takes a screw through the inner mounting bracket ,which holds the reflector the riveted one just rivets the bulb holder and the reflector slips over the holder the early 30 rim has no hole in it to secure the rim,it just snaps in place the later one has a hole and screw to hold it to the shell the early lens has Top on the top of the lens so as you can see they are totally different in every way the arms although different are interchangeable tom |
