Default Speedometer drive gear shaft retainer

I want to remove my drive gear shaft retainer ( the cup-shaped piece.) I tried using a putty knife to pry it off but is seems stuck tight. Any tips?

Take a knife blade and put it behind the flange and tap on it with a hammer all the way around until is separates, then work it off with something thicker.
