speedometer question
Just a quick question about my speedometer. I have an early '30 tudor sedan with an oval speedometer only there is no trip odometeron it. All the other oval speedos ive seen have the trip odometer. I was just wonder its a normal thing to not have the trip miles on an oval or if the speedo is possible not original. My dad bought the car 40 years ago from someone who was not the original owner. During my resoration I have discovered that some of the parts that came with the car were not original/correct, just wondering if this was one of those things. Thanks.

Re: speedometer question
Can you post a pic?
In OZ, that car would be unregistrable as a car originally fitted with a speedo/odo has to have both working to pass registration. I have just gone thru this saga with the authorities. |

Re: speedometer question
It sounds like you have a Northeast oval speedometer. I have one on my early 1930 Briggs Town Sedan. The instrument panel does not have a cutout for the trip odometer knob. The speedometer cable connection to the speedometer is also different. Male instead of female (or vice versa). I believe this was only used in early 1930. Someone else may have more information.

Re: speedometer question
I don't think he was talking about not having an odometer, just the little 3-digit trip meter that is normally below the regular odometer.

Re: speedometer question
According to the Judging Standards the Northeast speedo without the trip meter
was used from 12-29 through 6-30. Bob |

Re: speedometer question
here is a photo of the northeast speedometer
correct for the early thirtys used from dec 29 thru june 30 since they were making 30 models in November 1929 i would assume they were used only on the 30 model |
