Perhaps your gas cap isn't venting?

Loosen the gas cap and try it? Had several in my local club with this problem!

My same problem was an overcharging generator causing the points to burn.

Check your voltage output and the points for blueing and burning.

It started missing and backfiring, and I am sure it sounded like fuel, cleaned carb many times, but it wasn't fuel.

One trick I have learned is to hang a timing light off dash and when it quits or misses, you see instantly if the problem IS spark.

check all the wires going and coming from the ign switch, are any extra warm? maybe a loose connection, is the coil hot enough so you can't hold on to it? iif so i would start there, if its ok check condensor, get a usa madw one isnt there one fron international that works xlnt? next time it quits check spark at plugs, if so its not electrical, it take spark and fuel to run find out which one you dont have

My first thought was gas cap, too.

Also, do you have an air maze air filter on the car? I had one once that would get so extremely hot next to the exhaust that it was boiling the gas in the bowl of the carb and sucking in hot air, the car would run so bad after about 30 minutes of driving. Didn't shut down though. I put a wrench on it to remove it and it started sizzling the small invisible amount of grease that was on the wrench. Not a big fan of those filters anymore, unless I know i'll be doing some dirt road driving.

I think the easyist thing to do is checkfor spark while is is not starting before it cools off, if it sparks the only thing left is fuel.

you say the fuel bowl is full. this does not mean there is fuel available to the carb. when it quits pull the line at the carb and check the flow. the inlet and outlet are in the same plane so the bowl remains full. lol Scotty
