Default 34 question

Hello, does any one know if 34 was the only year that side glass went backwards for a vent opening? Ken

The rear side windows in '40 sedans have that feature.

They were used for "Cigarette butt disposal". I don't expect Henry designed them for that though.

So only 34 and 40? Seems like if ford was still using it in 40 then maybe 35 36 37 etc? The reason I ask is im curious about interchangeable or adaptable parts. Ken

And 39. 1940 went to vent windows in front, so the rollback was not used in them, only in the back.

Good to know! thanks all. Im replacing rusted out metal rails that the glass sits in and I might be able to modify one from a later v8 to work. I dont want to use repop ones.

I've taken NOS 48- #'ed ones and trimmed the end off and wallah-34 ones . I'm not at home so I cannot look it up but many 34 folks should be aware of this trick .

So 1940 was the first year that Ford had the vents in the front doors? Is this for cars and trucks also?

34pickup I think 34 was first year for cars, my gut tells me the 34 pickup did not but maybe someone else will chime in to tell you for certain. Ken

Ken and Ted. I am talking about the little triangle glass that turns out in the front of the door. I think that we may be talking about different things, some people call them wind wings. I know that 34 pickups do not have them because I have one. I don't recall ever seeing any on a 34 car either.

Oh, you had me confused. I thought you were talking about windows that slid back and forth and provided ventilation. You are talking about the triangular windows that pushed out for ventilation. I believe 40 was the first year for those, at least on Mercury. Dodge had them in 39, I remember that because I glued a small strip of mirrored glass on the edge and had myself a cool rear view mirror.
