Anyone want to do a look over of my new 29 Tudor
Well my 29 Tudor just arrived that I bought. I took her for my first spin and all is well.
I happen to live in South Orange County and wonder if someone who has a bit of knowledge on this model would not mind taking a look at her to make sure she is road safe. I plan on taking the wife and small son in a child seat out for the weekend cruise along the coast and want to make sure nothing goes wrong. She is a nice car in great shape. I live in Mission Viejo if that helps. oh and here she is |

Looks great ! I have a buddy with a 29 phaeton with the same color scheme right down to the wheels. He asked all of us our opinion about painting the wheels black. We voted to keep the orange.

Hi B.B.,
Some of the things you can do yourself, especially if you do not know the history of the car. You can check over the engine (valves, comp., fluid level etc.). You may want to lift the front of the car and check the King Pins and brakes. You have a great looking car and enjoy the ride it is worth it. And I am sure someone will be over to help you out. Mike p.s. If you don't have them yet I suggest getting a copy of Les Andrew's books on the Model A. They are a great resource-along with this forum with pics and diagrams.

One thing unique about this car is it seems to be fairly original but with a bunch of options like the tool chest, the luggage rack and case, the cowl lights, aftermarket blinkers and hte little vases on the inisde behind the passenger windows and also the spare tire on the drivers running board. One thing I have not figured out yet, is it possible to have the cowl lights on with the front head lights? its wired so I turn the landle clockwise onthe wheel to turn the cowls on and counterclockwise to turn the head lights on. See why I want someone to inspect it lol That way I can pick their brain when here. |

Nice looking car.
Just maybe one item to consider. I am not the adventure type so I think I would take the rig out on a drive by yourself before taking the wife and small son out for a ride. The reason is that just in case, not saying it will happend, the rig wants to have you park it by the side of the road and go no further, you may want the wife at home so you could call her on the cell to come and give you a ride home! Or another option is to be sure you have a AAA membership.

Very nice. Could be the photo, but, the hood looks like a 28? Do you have more

Badbones,
The Orange County Chapter of MAFCA is very large and very active, and I'm sure there are members close to you. Check on the MAFCA website for a contact phone number. Good luck with the new car, and enjoy the ride. She looks great P.S. Used to live in Irvine for 30 years. I may be in Mission Viejo next week on a project. |

You're only about 33 miles south of MAFCA headquarters in La Habra. Lots of help there!

Your carburetor should not leak, even if the petcock is open. Check your needle and seat, and check your float level.

Re: Anyone want to do a look over of my new 29 Tudor
As long as the cowl lamps are still controled by the steering wheel mounted light switch, the cowl lamps can not be on while the headlights are on. I have seen on the later 1930 model A wiring diagram where a seperate light switch for the cowl lamps was mounted by the dash panel. Then the cowl lamps could then be operated independantly from the headlights.

Nice car! I vote for black wheels and keeping the whitewalls, but it's your car - do what makes ya happy. The cowl lights were intended as parking lights - they were designed to be off when the headlights are on and vice-versa.
