Re: old racing flatty
That 32 grill shell on Pete Lodge's coupe- I bought that exact grill at Puke swap meet way back in the late 70's-early 80's. Never knew it's history....It was whilst in the middle of purchasing that grill that I met for the first time 'KiwiTony' , who hangs out here on the barn. Ah...nostalgia!!

Re: old racing flatty
Great memory Brian , yes I still have it. Have 2 of them hanging in my shop along with a 41 LaSalle grille & 3 1936 ford car 1 1936 P/up. I have a hard time letting go of anything.
I still have the first flathead engine I ever bought at 16 . It actually came out of an old roadrace 34 Ford coupe with Willy's front sheetmetal on it . I wanted to buy the whole car for $200 in pieces but my Dad wouldn't let me . I am about to rebuild the engine. Cheers Tony |

Re: old racing flatty
You Guys are bringing up memories. When I was 15 I wanted to buy a 40 ford pickup advertised in the Christchurch Star,$250.00 Reconned Flatty, converted to 12 volts. I had the money but needed to run it buy Dad,He came and looked at it and said I wouldn't have enough money to run it.That was the end of that. A month or so later I went up to Oxford to look at a 39 coupe, turned out there were 8 all for $250.00, Mum said your not bringing all that crap home,so that was the end of that.Imagine what those coupes are worth today? I turned 16 left home and bought my 37 which I still have,43 years. In those days there were at least two full columns of old fords in the Saturday classifieds and that was a full size paper. Cheers Tony.

Re: old racing flatty
Yep "hoods" "greasers" "teddy boys" "Lords of Flatbush"..that type of stuff. Female bodgies were "widgies". Some of you US Barners might have been bodgies if you were in NZ in the 50s' and 60s'. I was a teenage product of the 70s' but bodgies were still talked about then and there were plenty of "old bodgies" around

Re: old racing flatty
And teams racing, that was the best, mates bought a stock car with a flathead 6 in, first race they got rolled and the radiator exploded, they soon sold it.
