We just finished pulling the rear end of a 31 pickup and found 12 leaves in the spring and a set of rusted frozen shackles. Can you imagine how that rode.

Must have been that "Heavy-Half Ton"

I think mine has only 7 or 8 leaves.

Hi Dave, we put 10 leaves in with new shackles, also found one front shackle was frozen. I don't think this thing has been greased in 40 years.

I had the same issue. I havn't touched the back but my front spring was resting on the axle, and when I got it out it had 14 leaves in it! I guess they compensated for the sag by just adding more leaves! Got my new spring in and now I just need to mount the spindles and do the brakes. Good luck to us both!

Could the body have been changed onto a truck chassis? From what I read it must have been a common practice as these where cheap and plentiful back in the day. I also keep seeing doodle bugs and "mill" type machinery made from the A too.

On a 31 CCPU,I installed an 8-leaf coupe spring & clip bars & it rode much better.I wasnt going to haul any heavy loads anyway.
