Rear hub grease seal
Is there a correct way to install the rear hub grease seals. The seals I have don't have a sharp edge on one side like some other seals I have seen. There is a slightly pointed part, but not very much. Does the side with the seem indicate which way the seal should be installed.
Thanks, Rusty Nelson |

Re: Rear hub grease seal
If you look at the rubber on the seal. One side is open and you can see the spring inside the rubber. The spring side goes down to help keep the grease in the bearing area. When I have installed these I usually put the seal in the freezer for a couple of hours (this shrinks the metal a little bit), and then use an old bearing to as a spacer in the arbor press and they usually go right in.

Re: Rear hub grease seal
The seals I have, have a solid plastic or rubber ring in them - no open area. I can't see the spring on the inner part, although there is probably one inside the plastic or rubber part, like some seals I have seen before.
