Default Column Lock and Steering Box ID 32-34?? NEW Pic's

I am looking at buying a farmer modified Model A truck chassis. It looks to have a slightly later steering box and column lock on it. The steering shaft has been shortened, so not likely any good. Can anyone help me ID the year of the modified column lock and box? Thanks Rod

Column drop looks 32 and the sector shaft housing isn't real visible so can't know on that . 32-34 steering boxes are the same except for the sector housing being clocked different . And of course the different length steering shaft and the tube seal that started in 33 .

Thanks, I had some time to look at the 33-34 sector housing that is listed on e-bay and it looks to have more of an angle than this one. I could not get a decent angle to get a pic of the sector housing without the sun messing up my pic to the point it was not viewable. I would guesse all came from the same column. I should be hearing back from the owner in the next few days. It did not seem that he wanted anymore than scrap iron price. Likely better thanhalf of what is there by weight will be hauled in for scrap anyway. The radiator looks to be close to 70 lbs by itself, that may pay for more than half of the purchase price. Thanks Rod

The '33-'34 big trucks used the '32 style column drop.

I agree with Fred A The 32-33-34 big trucks (BB) used the same column drops as the 32 passenger. However the column tube was a thicker wall tubing. The (BB) steering box was similar in appearance but was larger and very few components will interchange with the 32 pass boxes. The 33-34 large trucks (BB) were likewise similar but, again larger and had the 15 to 1 ratio like the 33-34 pass/pickup boxes. With the fantastic escalation in the prices of 32 column drops seem like a good idea to rescue this one.

So far me efforts to obtain this thing are falling of deaf ears. Beyond permission to go look at it I have gotten no additional contact from the land owner. Rod

From the ignition switch lever it appears to be 35, with the bulls eye lever.

I thought the 35 lever was off to the side, not directly above center. That is why I was calling it 32-24 and not 32-36. Trying to learn afew things here and there. Rod

I was referring to lever only. It is off to the side, at least on the pickup. The bulls eye lever may have been used in other years as well, but I am not sure.

Thanks for the clarification. I am mainly trying to buy because of the early 30 commercial gas tankn kindof rare. Hoping the box and column lock get me close to break even. The shaft and tube are a total loss. Afew other parts worth the time to remove, but not counting on them to be valuable if they are any good at all. A lot of scrap to remove and haul off later. Rod

The whole steering column lock is '32 passenger/commercial in its entirety. The lever reappeared briefly on early '35s, but only the lever.

Thanks, I feel much better now. Never had a lot of luck with 35-36 parts other than afew pieces of trim and thed LB block. Always wanted a 36 club cabriolet, but that will have to wait until I finish the projects I have. Rod

The sector housing should have a part number which will tell you what year it is.B- is 32,40- 33-34.

I brought the chassis home today and removed the steering column. The top of the steering box has 40 stamped into it, so I am presumung the box and sector are 33-34. The column lock looks to be 32 and has the switch contact cover I have seen advertised as being 32. Pic's below. Thanks for the help and more comments and thoughts are always appriciated. Also pic's of the steering arm and a front brake actuator that was laying inside a piece of channel iron on the chassis. I am not sure if the steering arm is correct for 32-34 and not sure what year of brake actuator this is. Thanks Rod

The steering sector arms are '33-'34, although one of them is seriously bent out of shape at the ball end. The brake parts are '35-'36.

Hard to be sure from the pictures, but it looks like at least one of the arms has a ball that is still about round...it is not a relaceable part on '33-4, and most are seriously worn there!

Thanks for verifiing what it appears to be. The ball on the arm is out of round, but was mounted to a makeshift pitman arm that wore it in a different place than what it would have worn it originally. May be still usable, but not the best. Rod

The steering box looks to me like a 32. The steering arm looks different than the 33-34 arms I have had. Mine had a small flange at the ball end for the seal to ride against. I wonder if the box and arm are big truck? I bought a box once that looked exactly like a 32 box but was from a truck and 25% bigger. The arm would have BB- part number maybe? Check the steering shaft dia. Pass car would be 3/4 and the truck 7/8.
The drop is the same as 32.
