Default F150 Trans removal

I need to remove my F150 transmission to upgrade the gearset to the "Goldilocks" gears. I've been trying to figure out if it's easier to remove the engine or remove the rearend. I leaning towards removing the engine because there isn't much room behind the transmission with the brake cross shaft there. What say you??????????

A Model A mechanic worked on mine a while back, and he chose to remove the rear end.

I have done it both ways and find it easier to take out the rear end with my 150 trans.

Curious, what is the goldilocks gears?

I think the "Goldilocks " reference is for the most favorable overdrive ratio to the model A.

The preferred gearset of the original Tremec RTS transmission was......1st=3.25. 2nd=1.92, 3rd=1.00, OD=.783(27.6%). The goldilocks gearset is derived from a 1978-79 RUG transmision which gives you a higher first and second gear ratio and still has the preferred 27% OD ratio.........1st=3.01, 2nd=1.78, 3rd=1.00 and OD=.787(26.99%)

Most vans used an automatic so finding a van with the SMOD RUG set up in that short 2-year range is not an easy task. It's eventually going to require some outfit with gear manufacturing experience to manufacture the described gears. They aren't making new ones down in Mexico anymore.
