Default Armature Thread Size

Anyone know the thread size on the generator armatures? Specifically 40 . I’m thinking I read somewhere that is not a standard thread size but now I can’t find it again.

From memory it seems it is either a 7/16 NF or a 3/8 NF?

It’s larger than 1/2”. I’ve read somewhere that the die for this is marked with an “A” on it because it’s specifically for armatures.

FWIW the thread is the same as tie rod ends, so taps and dies and thin lock nuts might be available if that is any help at all. 11/16-20.

The thread is identified in the 1948 Standard fastener book, Part Number 351124-S (jam nut), which is a 21/32 X 20, which is .6562" OD, and 15/16 across the outer flats (wrench size). I have a generator small parts repair box with the correct nuts, plus the 1/2" X 20 smaller nuts for the 3 brush armature.
