Default Am i missing a wire in the junction box ?

The left side of the junction box has the wire from the ammeter (Yellow) that is all that's on that terminal. Should there be another wire on that terminal. I'm using
an electronic ignition 12v neg and an alternator.

PS The ammeter doesn't move.

Since the 3 things you mentioned are far from stock, it's hard to tell what someone did with the wiring. Best to look at the schematic above and get some idea how the ammeter and terminal box are wired into the circuit.

But to answer your question, YES, there needs to be more than just the one wire on the terminal, or you won't have a circuit.

Basically the generator wire goes to one terminal, then a wire from that terminal goes to the ammeter. Then another wire from the other ammeter stud goes to the other terminal box stud, and another wire from that stud leads to the starter switch and battery.

I've taken a wire that comes from the starter and originally was fixed to the right post and
fixed it onto the left post. The ammeter now flicks when the turn lights are used.

When working on any car the right junction box post would be the passenger side. You look at it as your sitting in the car IE r/s fender would be the pass side. (L/r tire would be the drivers rear)I feel you attached it correctly according to the schematic but your stating the post location as your looking head on at the car... The exception of terminology (pass side / drivers side) would be if it's a r/hand drive car but the positions remain the same

The ammeter should flicker when the turn lights are used, just as it should read a discharge if the headlamps are used.

I get the flicker with turn lights but nothing on the ammeter when head lights are turned on, the lights were changed to halogen.

the wire from the generator (alternator) shuld be on a different post from the wire going to the starter, the light harness should be hooked to the wire that connects to the generator, in a stock systen that is at the generator, changing to halogen shouldn't make a difference (when I changed to quartz halogen bulbs all i did was put the bulbs in---original bulbs were filled with halogen gases, so they could be called halogen bulbs)

you have so many non stock that it is difficult to assess your problem. Start by listing non stock items. Wayne

Yes the lights are hooked up on the driver's side post with the alternator wire.

And remember, there's nothing complicated about the junction block, it's just a convenient junction thingy.

The BLK / Y wire goes from the l/s junct box stud to the alt / gen. One wire from the light switch and one from the horn both Y also connects to the same alt / gen terminal..these color codes are assuming your using stock wiring..
The schematic posted above shows this...

Rob, if you have a generator (dynamo to you and me over here!) the ammeter should show a discharge when you put the headlights on . But you say you have an alternator thus it is probable that the ammeter will just flick a little as the alternator instantaneously adjusts to the new demand. (Tom Wesenberg's excellent simple tip to check if dynamo/generator/alternator circuit is working correctly is.... do the headlights increase in brightness as you rev it up from idle speed?
